SEA & SLATE

At the Sea & Slate gallery in Llangrannog

This series of mini paintings was created especially for the Sea & Slate gallery in Llangrannog, Ceredigion, which sadly closed in June 2024.

Ceredigion is a land of sea, slatey coves, hidden beaches, rich green countryside and twisty lanes. Llangrannog sits at the bottom of one of those twisty lanes. It’s two-part beach is framed by monumental cliffs and is home to Carreg Bica, a stunning rock formation, which legend has it is the tooth of a giant with terrible toothache!

I’ve been captivated by the beauty and variety of the South Ceredigion landscape and this series speaks of its sea and shore. All the paintings are just 150 x 150 mm and are on panels or watercolour paper in frames. Each one has been created as a little world in itself, jewel like and intricate. I have used acrylic paint, mixed media and some collage to form layers of colour and texture.
